How deep to spread it
For a new lawn, about 100mm of topsoil under the seed or turf is a good start. For flower and veg beds, 300mm or more. For levelling dips in an existing lawn, 25 to 50mm at a time so the grass can grow through.
Swapping old soil for new
If you are digging out clay, rubble or old turf first, we can take it away and bring the new topsoil on the same visit. Send photos of what is coming out so we can price both.

Questions about Topsoil
How much topsoil for a new lawn?
At 100mm deep, one tonne covers about 7m². A 30m² lawn needs about 4.2 tonnes, or about 4.7 tonnes with 10% extra. That is four trips.
Can you take my old soil away?
Yes. Soil and turf are heavy, so send photos or rough quantities and we price the take-away and the delivery together.
